Past & Upcoming Events

Hello!

Since we haven't posted for awhile, let me update you on what's been going on at Aspen Leaf over the last few months!

During the month of August, we had most of our new residents move in, so we held an ice cream social in August for people to get to know one another.

During the month of September, we had a trivia contest on our Facebook page to honor Apple Appreciation month (and just have a ton of fun). Thank you to all those who participated! We also had a "Meet Your Neighbors" event where we served apple pie! Yummy!

Now that it's October, we are hosting an event today for people to paint and decorate pumpkins!

For those of you who missed out, please join us for our upcoming events! In November, we will have a food drive for local Flagstaff families up until the weekend before Thanksgiving. We will also have a thank you wall and ask residents to share what they are most grateful for. Each donated food item will count towards an entry into a drawing to win a $25 gift card! In addition, if a resident participates in our thank you wall, they will also be entered into this same contest.

Do you have an idea for an event at Aspen Leaf? Please share your ideas with us!

Past Events:

I speak fluently in movie quotes

July's resident popcorn guessing competition is over and a winner has emerged!

Congrats to Ashley, who guessed 270 popcorn puffs!  (There were 268, impressive!)

Leslie and Ashely celebrating the victory!

Ashley won 2 tickets to Harkins Theatre!  We hope you pick out a good movie and eat some popcorn!

We love our residents at Aspen Leaf!

Can you name these movies?

Let them eat cake!

July 19th is National Raspberry Cake Day!

I don't know who created this holiday, or how it got started, but I"m not complaining.  It's raspberry cake day, people. Cake. Need I say more?

Cake.

I wish I could type more, but I am off to get some cake....I suggest you do the same!

Happy Father's Day!

Did you know...

The idea of Father's Day was conceived slightly more than a century ago by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father's Day celebration June 17, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane's mayor because it was the month of Smart's birth. The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. Father's Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.

Fun Fact: There are 70.1 million: Estimated number of fathers across the nation.

Happy Father's Day from Aspen Leaf!

Meet Alexa

Hi Aspen Leaf Residents! This is silly me, Alexa! I am a new leasing specialist at Aspen Leaf Apartments. When I'm not rocking my MEB colors, you'll find me fashioning a wetsuit, as I love to scuba dive. I am working at a couple of MEB properties this summer, but you will see me more and more as August approaches. Feel free to stop by the office and introduce yourself. Have a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend!

Congrats, Graduates!

“College – those are your prime suffering years.  You don’t get better suffering than that.”   --Little Miss Sunshine (2006) – Uncle Frank (Steve Carell)

We would like to give all 2012 graduates a BIG HURRAH to a job well done!  You made it and deserve to sit back and enjoy your success!  Don't sleep for too long, you don't want to put all your time, effort, and money to waste!

CNN gives the 3 major slip-ups graduates make, you can check out the entire article here.

1. Social Media Missteps

By now, seniors have heard the warnings – that what they post online is rarely, completely private. You know how you wouldn’t want embarrassing photos or information about your last breakup appearing in a school yearbook? Well, think of Facebook and Twitter as a yearbook for the entire world. And if you're a college graduate whose profile picture reveals a funnel, a frothy drink, and the Jersey Shore (or Lake Havasu…or Daytona Beach…or a Caribbean cruise), there’s a possibility that the company you want to work for will see it.

2. Summer Slacking

Social media aren’t the only danger zones for graduates, of course. Another potential stumbling block is the coveted summer break. Between the ninth and tenth grades, you might've kicked back, relaxed, worked only when needed (or convenient), and ruled the pool. But recent college graduates who stay in that pattern are almost certain to lose whatever jobs are available to those who started their search before they even donned a cap and gown.

3. Mishandling Money

Understand your income. A starting salary of $36,000 does not mean you’re going to get a check for $3,000 a month. Uncle Sam’s gonna take a chunk of that; your state may take a cut as well; your employer will probably need you to kick in part of your health insurance coverage. So plan on getting a roommate or two and cycling through a few paychecks so you have a sense of what you can afford before you actually go shopping.

Mother's Day

"All women become like their mothers.  That is their tragedy.      No man does.  That is his."  -Oscar Wilde

What a wonderful day; celebrating moms across the nation!  Aspen Leaf Apartments appreciates and thanks the mothers in and outside our great community!

Happy Mother's Day!

Because a cats the only cat, who knows where it's at...

What do Garfield, Felix, Puss in Boots, Cheshire, Milo, Sassy, and Mr. Bigglesworth have in common?

You got it, they are some of our favorite cats on film!

June is national Adopt-A-Cat month and we are excited to celebrate it with you and our feline friends!

Mark your calenders for June 30th to stop by the leasing office and visit with Coconino Humane Association's available furry friends. If you see one you love we can get the paperwork processed right then and there.

Tell your friends so we can save as many lives as possible!

Our cats might not be as cool as The ThunderCats, but they will definitely be more cuddly!

P.S. Can you name that movie the title came from?

Cinephile Not-So-Anonymous

Hi.  My name is Leslie and I love the movies.  I love holding my ticket, unable to wait for the attendant to tear it, so I do and smile as I hand over stub.  It's go time.  Popcorn, pretzels, and pop.  The hustle of the people walking in, anticipating the movie mingled the hustle of people of leaving, some with disappointed faces, some with satisfaction.

Want to know the best place to sit?  Five rows from the top, center of the row.  Best seat. Ever.

Tim Burton said, "Movies are like an expensive form of therapy for me."

I hear you Tim!  They are expensive, but who wants to give them up? Not me. Luckily, here at Aspen Leaf, we have a movie library for our residents!  Residents can check out 2 movies at a time, and get this:  It's FREE!

We even update our movies every 5-6 weeks, so new movies are constantly coming in!  Now you can snuggle up on the couch with your favorite blanket, stretch out, and enjoy a movie at zero cost.

What, you're not a resident?  There is an easy solution to that...become one!

What's your favorite movie?  Comment below, I'd love to know!

So relaxing!

"Donuts, is there anything they can't do?"

I love Friday's here at Aspen Leaf, and not because I'm one day closer to the weekend.  No, I love Fridays for a different reason: donuts.

I love residents and co. stopping by on their way to or from work, to chat with, as they grab a piece of pastry heaven, knowing that life is about to get better.

We have donuts for everyone (at least while they last!) in the leasing office every Friday, our gift to you for being....awesome!

I've always said that I've learned everything I need to know from cartoons. So, if Homer SImpson thinks eating donuts is good, then good it is!

He also said "Trying is the first step towards failure", so perhaps I should pick a  different cartoon?  Nah!
